Problems in the Relationship
During the next several chapters, OJ describes how their relationship progressed, with only an occasional fight and then abruptly came to an end. Two years after their engagement, Nicole and OJ got married. OJ and Nicole maintained a good relationship for approximately fifteen years. They had the occasional fight, several times ending in calls to the police. From what was described by OJ, the fights were usually over something small and petty and often had no need for interference by the police. Many of the fights were caused by Nicole’s uncontrollable temper and rage. Even with these fights, Nicole and OJ remained happy together and in love.
Seven years into the marriage, at a time when OJ believed that their relationship was doing fine, Nicole decided that she no longer wanted to be with him and suggested they try living apart for a month before they got the lawyers involved. OJ saw this as a pointless endeavor and insisted on using lawyers and getting through a divorce as quickly as possible. He still had feelings for her, but she had already moved on and was seeing someone else, while OJ remained single, still trying to get over their divorce. They continued speaking regularly and Nicole often came to OJ for advice with problems she was having in her life, including issues occurring with her friends and boyfriends.
