Another Try

Throughout the next several chapters, OJ describes how he was feeling about the situation he was forced into  and how his feelings for Nicole have lessened since the divorce.  During this period of time, he stops speaking with Nicole and only sees her when dropping off and picking up his children, in order to help him emotionally overcome the events that occurred in his past relationship with her.

Once OJ had finally moved on and was in a solid relationship with another woman, Nicole wanted to get back together with him. During their period of separation, Nicole had been seeing a psychiatrist, which made her realize that most of the arguments and issues that occurred in the relationship were her fault.  At that point, he was in a relationship with Paula Barbieri and was unwilling to sabotage that for someone who he had already failed in a relationship with.  Eventually, Nicole convinced him to try getting back together for a year since it would be beneficial to the kids if their parents were not separated.  For the sake of his children, he decided to give her plan a try and committed to being in a relationship for one year, at which point they would decide if it was working or not.

At first, the relationship was going well, but after a short period of time, Nicole wanted to move back into OJ’s house along with the kids.  He was unwilling to do this because in the case that the relationship was unsuccessful, he did not want to further complicate the lives of his children.  During this one year period, OJ discovered that Nicole had become friends with a group of people who he felt were a bad influence on his children.  Many of these people were drug addicts and he, along with many of her old friends, suspected that she also had developed a drug addiction.  This causes the relationship to fail and leaves the couple in the same state they were in after the divorce.
